AtYPICAL tHEME
From three very different areas of the Americas, comes AtYPICAL tHEME. A band that proves there's always a new sound to subsist and exist, even when genres have been worn, stretched, manipulated and tinkered with to their logical ends. Inspired by many great bands who are living proof that for those brave enough to snub convention, greatness follows. We intend to prove the same. Bands such as The Beatles, Nirvana, Faith No More, System Of a Down, Tool, the Deftones, and Latin rock legends Caifanes and Molotov. Artists who have always brought music to its wits end, and who have frustrated typical and fraudulent impostors that un-fairly dominate the industry. Though identifiable with many different aspects of many different styles, AtYPICAL tHEME is never loyal to any one style, and guarantees to remain an atypical band.
AtYPICAL tHEME offers a unique blend of hard rock, melody, harmonies, punk rock, metal, extensive vocal arrangements, catchy hooks, soulful rhythms, and it’s all blended into a very popular sounding accord. Having set their mark upon almost every stage in Portland, they’ve also ventured as far as Seattle and Oakland. Most have compared them to a mix between Nirvana, System of a Down, Green Day and Metallica. With their debut release “BeAuTiFuL”, they demonstrated their array of multi-faceted style and emotion evoking chords. Their follow up title which is currently un-named will demonstrate how they’ve honed their skills and styles into a more identifiable common ground, but still very different from what you’ll hear on the radio. They’ve shared the stage with many local greats as well as national greats, and will be around until they’re heard across nations.
Inaki Torres: Lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist, hook-master, song writer, doomed and blessed poet, started AtYPICAL tHEME with Rudy Hedges in the Summer of 2002 after fronting various other bands with unique music and catchy choruses. Hailing from Mexico, he followed hwy 222 to a free country, yet a country with closed eyes to the soul and passion of migrant force from within. So he decided to say something about it with his atypical themes.
Rudy Hedges: Percussionist, vocal harmonizer, song tweaker, ingenuitive arranger, emotion driven. Portland native that played shows before & after Inaki’s other bands & admired genius of the music. Fueled by soul of music and post-childhood angst, Rudy’s unique & powerful style puts him at the top of cymbal and drum-head breakers such as the great Dave Grohl. With a background of many other instruments, his contribution to the band is immense.
Kris Downey: Bassist, vocal harmonizer, song tweaker, influential power plucker. Kris followed the music down hwy 222 as well. All the way from Bloomington Indiana through St. Louis Missouri of previous bands like Mind the Gap where he was a guitarist, Kris found his home in the beautiful Portland Oregon, and with his AtYPICAL tHEME. His extremely unique and dynamic style and constantly progressive quaking accompaniments bring AtYP to their zenith.
